Bachelor of Science module "Smart Sustainability”

Note: This module will no longer be offered in the future!

Contents

Intelligent management in accordance with sustainability and, in particular, the Sustainable Development Goals requires decision-makers who understand digital technologies and think and act in multi-perspective economic, ecological and social terms.

In the context of the lecture, for example, the role of sustainability in customer decisions (Digital Sustainable Nudging) will be addressed, as well as entrepreneurial business models (Sustainability Business Models, Circular Economy), energy management and the responsible management of citizens' health (Smart Cities, Smart Districts, Smart Towns).

Learning Goals

  • Understand the integrated role of sustainability (societal, corporate and individual perspective)
  • Understand the special role of information and communication technologies for sustainability
Basic concept

The course uses flipped classroom and blended learning concepts. As a student, you will receive various materials for flexible, individual preparation. Afterwards, we will support your learning process in a series of live sessions, where you will discuss together with the lecturers and your fellow students.

Your individual preparation is essential

For the live sessions, you will need to prepare the content. Without preparation, attending a Live Session is pointless. Preparation means that you read/watch/listen to the material provided. You should not just consume the material, but actively engage with it. Further, you should think about it, evaluate your agreement, disagreement, and criticism, take notes, formulate questions, and develop perspectives to remember and/or share in the Live Sessions. You will only be able to take full advantage of the Live Sessions if you show up prepared. Materials for your individual preparation include, but are not limited to:

  • Instructional videos
  • Slides that will be used in the instructional videos and the Live Sessions
  • Reading material: e.g. field reports, white papers, case studies
  • Video & audio material: e.g., selected podcasts or videos
